本研究は，仏教出家者の食生活の規則集（諸律文献薬ケン（牛へんに健）度）の内容を踏まえ，古代の流通や医学の知見を加えて，仏教出家者の実際の食事内容に迫るものである．2022年度も砂糖や塩の記述をもとにインドにおけるフィールドワークを行う予定であったが，調査や再現実験は新型コロナの状況に左右され実施できていない．そのため，方向性を彫刻や壁画に遺される生活のための資具の調査に変更した．新型コロナの状況を踏まえ，2022年2月にインドの現地調査を再開した．現地の様子確認を行った．インドへの入国に関して日本人は制限がある時期だったため，本格的な調査の前段階とした．そもそもの課題の一つであった古代インドの砂糖に関して，黒蜜を埋没させた甕で乾燥砂漠気候や湿潤熱帯気候において長期保存して経年変化をみる調査は断念した．最終年度にインド調査にいけるかどうかという状況であったためである．代わって，これまでテキスト研究を補完するために彫刻や壁画を援用していた西インド（サーンチーやアジャンタ）以外の作例や遺物などを集めることとした．古代インド内にてブドウが常用される果物であったかという点に関して，テキストから読み取れることとして，インドからみて北西部でしか生育しなかった可能性を指摘した．多湿な気候がインドにおけるブドウの栽培を不可能にしていた可能性を印度学仏教学会にて発表した．
