本研究対象作品は《原爆の図》第一作目の作品としても特に注目される作品ではあるが、主として使用されている画材料の性質ならびに制作工程においては、それらの特性上、同定することは困難であることも多分にある。和紙に木炭といった固形描画材や墨汁等を大胆に併用するなど従来の古典的絵画表現には見られない技法材料が見られのに加え、2名の共同制作の先駆けとなる作品として試行錯誤したであろう形跡も見受けられ、技法材料を実際に使用した実践的手法を通しつつ多角的視点からのアプローチが求められる。これらを念頭に、令和4年度は前年度までの画材料の実験的な実験的使用等を通し、部分的再現模写による作品の技法材料ならびに絵画的観点による絵画表現の検証を試みた。従来の古典日本絵画には見られない画材の併用や、描画後における定着剤の使用による効果と影響、使用のタイミングによる効果の違い等などを実践による再現的模写を通して検証し、本作を含む作品群やその他同様の作品への応用となるようデータをとった。また、本作品は歴史的観点における評価に比較し技法材料ならびに絵画性における評価は遅れをとっているが、本作品群の歴史的観点における評価も確固たる絵画的表現力の基盤の上にあると考える。これを踏まえ、細部の観察と制作実践的アプローチを通し、美術的見地による絵画表現としての特筆すべき点を挙げた。主に「線描」「構成・構図」「色調・密度」「制作工程」の項目を挙げ、それぞれにおける特徴を具体的に取り上げることにより、絵画的観点からの本作品の再評価を目的とした。なお、本研究は延長により令和5年度も上記の一部内容と同様の研究を継続する。
