前年度に行った分析からさらなる示唆を得るために、動機づけ変化プロセスの可視化と動機づけ変化に影響を与えた社会的・心理的要因の明確化に加えて、2022年度はそれらを「教室外英語学習（OCLL: Out-of-Class Language Learning）」と「エンゲージメント」の観点から捉えることを試みた。その背景には、教師の指示に基づいて進められることを基本とする教室内英語学習とは異なり、OCLLの場合は、学習者自らが自律的に個々の英語学習文脈を構築し、様々な文脈的要因に影響を受ける中で学習へのエンゲージメントを変化させていると考えられるからである。結果として、行動的エンゲージメントを高めた要因には、例えば、毎日必ず返信が来るといった言語交換パートナーの学習行動や態度が関連していた。また、パートナーから得られた訂正フィードバック等のランゲージングによって認知的エンゲージメントが引き出されたことが示唆された。感情的エンゲージメントについては、学習を共に楽しめる相性の良さといったパートナーの存在とやり取りへの肯定的な感情がその向上に非常に強い影響を与えていた。社会的エンゲージメントについては、互恵性と対等な関係性がバランスよく構築された協働型の学習が成立していたことが向上の要因であった。前年度との連では、内発的動機づけの向上に言語交換アプリを通じた英語学習が大きく関わり、またアプリを通じたOCLLではエンゲージメントを高めることのできる言語交換パートナーの存在が不可欠であることがわかった。以上のことは、教室外における学習者固有の英語学習文脈において、他者（共に学ぶ存在）、そして他者とのエンゲージメントの４側面を充足させるインタラクションが、学習動機のポジティブな変容やエンゲージメントの促進における重要なファクターとなる可能性を示唆するものである。
