2022年度も引き続き、ツーリズムジェントリフィケーションの研究と共に持続可能な観光について、次の対象地において研究調査を実施した。宮古島市では、伊良部大橋の開通、みやこ下地島空港の開業により、観光客数が大幅に増加し、観光客数の増加に伴い宿泊施設が増加した。特に顕著だったのが、伊良部島の海岸線沿いに建てられた富裕層向けのヴィラタイプの宿泊施設や平良港周辺の外資系ホテルの進出である。宿泊施設などの建設ラッシュによる作業員や宿泊施設関連の従業員の増加により、賃貸物件の価格が高騰し、宮古島市の中心市街地の路線価が上昇していた。こうした宿泊需要の高まりにより、地域住民の居住地からの「住宅の立退き」やビーチや信仰の場からの「居場所の立退き」が生じていた。このように宮古島市においては、観光開発に伴うツーリズムジェントリフィケーションの発現を明らかにした。観光開発は、第一次産業が衰退する中、雇用を生み出し、地域に経済的な効果が得られるとされている。確かに、建設関連ならびに観光関連の仕事は増加しているが、賃金は沖縄水準のままで、賃貸価格の上昇や観光客向けの商業施設の増加により、地域住民の生活を脅かす側面もある。2022年度の後半には、沖縄本土の北谷において沖縄米軍跡地として活用していた商業施設の観光需要に伴う変容に関して調査した。北谷においては、宿泊施設の増加に伴い外部資本が流入し、商業施設が観光客向けのものに変容する「商業の立退き」が生じていた。北谷に関しては、2023年度も引き続き調査を行う予定である。持続可能な観光施策に関しては、香川県高松市仏生山町のまちぐるみ旅館を対象に、「まちやど」の観点で検証を行い、「まちやど」が形成されるプロセス、「まちやど」が地域に及ぼす影響を調査した。その結果、新規事業者による出店や新規事業者の連携による地域づくりのプロセスなどを明らかにした。
