项目摘要

本研究は、インドネシアの東部スマトラに暮らす諸民族集団の文化・歴史に関する比較研究を通して、東南アジアにおける民族の分枝・形成と維持・存続の歴史過程を追究するものである。昨年度の実績として、研究に関連する海外出張をおこなった。第一に、2022年8月末から9月初旬にかけて、アメリカに出張し、スマトラのリアウ諸島州に暮らすオラン・ラウトの研究で高名なシンシア・チャオ教授、およびマラッカ海峡周辺の歴史学者として有名なレオナード・アンダヤ氏と研究打ち合わせを行った。両氏と研究方針を確認する中で、リアウにおける民族の分枝・形成のプロセスについて、他の地域と比較しながらエスニシティの全体理論とつなげていく必要性を指摘された。加えて、特定時代かつ特定の場所を分析する人類学的なアプローチに歴史学的な長期間のダイナミズムを導入していく必要性を指摘された。第二に、2023年2月末から3月初頭にかけて、スマトラのリアウ州へ出張を行い、プタラガンの人びとが暮らす集落を訪問した。コロナ・パンデミックが起こってから初めての再訪であり、この2－3年間の村落状況の変化について調査を行った。その中で、近年中央政府が土地の国有林地指定を解除する方針を示しているが、集落の人びとが先住民たる「プタラガン」としての民族性よりは、過去から現在まで続く土地の実効支配をよすがに政府との交渉を進めていることを確認した。この点のより深い分析は今後の課題である。なお、2022年度には、本課題に関連する研究発表を4件（内：国内研究会2件、国内学会1件、国際会議1件）を行い、加えて、関連するトピックの書籍一冊の共県編著者となった（当該書籍に論文5本を執筆）。
