当該年度は大きく分けて２つの研究課題に取り組んだ。一つ目は地域貿易協定（RTA）を結ぶことによるパートナー国や非パートナー国間の知識のスピルオーバーへの影響について、前年度得られた実証結果を元にして、その理論的メカニズムを明らかにするために理論モデルを構築して、分析を行った。企業が生産を行う際に使う知識ストックを選択することを、生産性が異質な貿易モデルに導入し、、同じ国内の企業でも、生産性が高いか低いかで、どの国の知識ストックからインプットを調達するかが異なり、RTAの締結によって調達先を転換する企業とそうでない企業が存在することを示した。RTAの締結により、RTAパートナー国の知識ストックにアクセスする費用が低下すると、その結果、知識ストックからのインプットを調達する元が、国内の知識ストックからRTAパートナー国の知識ストックへ、あるいはRTAパートナー国以外の国の知識ストックからRTAパートナー国の知識ストックへと転換することを示し、実証結果と整合的な理論結果が得られた。二つ目は、RTAを締結することによって、国際間の技術スピルオーバーにどのような影響があるかについて、前年度構築したデータセットを用いて、定量的な分析を行った。1995-2017年の45カ国のサンプルを用いて、地域貿易協定（RTA）の締結国と非締結国からの異質な国際研究開発その結果、RTAパートナーからのR&Dスピルオーバーは、他の国からのスピルオーバーよりも有意に大きいことが分かった。地域貿易協定の締結が国際的な研究開発スピルオーバーにとって重要であることを示唆する結果が得られた。
