项目摘要

本研究の目的は、女性活用は企業価値増大に寄与できるとすれば、その要因にどのようなものがあるかを、明らかにすることである。本研究では、日本の企業レベルの二酸化炭素排出量に基づいて作成された新しいデータセットを用いて、取締役に女性が選任されている企業ほど二酸化炭素排出量が減少することを明らかにした。一方、女性が社外取締役に就任している企業では、二酸化炭素排出量の削減効果がより顕著であることがわかった。この研究の成果は、ガバナンスの観点からサステナビリティ・パフォーマンスを強化するという意味で、企業や規制当局にとって重要な政策的インプリケーションを提示できる。気候変動による脅威に対応するために、政府機関と企業は協力して排出削減を図る必要がある。2020年10月21日、菅義偉首相は、日本の温室効果ガス（GHG）排出量を2050年までにネットゼロに削減することを誓う計画を発表し、ビジネスの機会と課題を強調した。しかし、京都議定書の主催国である日本は、2006年に温室効果ガス削減目標を達成できず、排出量を増加させたことが示すように、既存のビジネスモデルや設備を変更することは経営者にとって簡単な決断ではない。本研究は、女性社外取締役による監視と助言の役割の重要性を強調し、再生可能エネルギーの利用と二酸化炭素排出の削減に寄与できると示唆する。昨年度作成した当該ワーキングペーパーをいくつかの学会やセミナーなどでの報告を行った。そして、2023年2月に、当該論文がPacific-Basin Finance Journal(SSCI; ABDC:A )に掲載された。
