本研究では，幼児の身近な戸外あそびの場である児童遊園に着目し，ブランコ・すべり台・ジャングルジムといった固定遊具の選定プロセスや，維持管理の実態と課題を明らかにする。そして，幼児に必要な多様な動きを経験でき，幼児の健全育成に資する児童遊園とするための，固定遊具の選定・維持管理システム構築に向けた基礎的知見を得ることを目的とした。2020年度には，都市公園・児童遊園整備の変遷について文献研究を行い，社会のできごとや法律の制定と合わせて，社会福祉政策の視点から分析することにより，子どものあそび場としての都市公園・児童遊園の設置や運営の課題を明らかにした。2021年度は，都市公園・児童遊園の現地調査を行い，既存の公園・児童遊園における固定遊具の配置状況の調査を行った。その結果，本来，児童遊園は，児童福祉法に基づき，地域における児童を対象とした児童厚生施設として設置されているはずであるが，実際には，大人向けの健康遊具が設置されている事例を確認した。2022年度は，老朽化した固定遊具の実態把握とともに，老朽化した固定遊具の入れ替え更新作業を行っている公園・児童遊園の現場において，旧固定遊具の状況，撤去状況，新固定遊具設置後の状況について調査を行った。固定遊具の入れ替え時に，同じ種類の同じ形状の固定遊具を設置していた場合や，同じ種類の形状が異なる固定遊具を設置していた場合や，異なる種類の固定遊具を設置していた場合のように，設置者の方針により，子どものあそび場の環境が変化していた実態が明らかとなった。さらに，いくつかの公園・児童遊園では，インクルーシブ固定遊具が設置されており，インクルーシブ固定遊具の設置が増えている実態が明らかとなった。
