第一に，2021年度に見出した方向性に基づき，幼小接続期カリキュラムの実践実態及び幼児や児童の「ことば」の発達に関する実態を知るために，研究協力学校園及び学級を限定して2校（公立校1，附属校1）各1学級を対象とし，年間を通した継続的な実地調査を実施した。具体的には，研究協力校の同意を得たうえで，国語科授業を中心とした録画録音データ及び児童の記述データの収集を，担当教員の協力を得ながら継続した。また，各学級に年間7回程度赴き，現地での授業及び生活観察を行った。併せて，学校長及び担当教員との授業カンファレンス及び聞き取りによって，教員や児童，授業に関わる情報提供を受けた。第二に，「平仮名や片仮名の誤表記がエンコーディングやデコーディングにかかわる課題によるものである場合，「読むこと」の学習に支障をきたすこと」についての検証を目的とした実験的調査（方法等については公開前のため情報開示を控える）を実施した。対象とする第1学年の時期は，身体や感情等のコンディションによって安定的なパフォーマンスをすることが難しい傾向がある。そのため，年間を通して訪問を継続し，少なくとも「知っている人」「話したことがある人」という関係を構築した。これにより，過度の緊張や非日常といった要素を抑えることができ，日常に近い形の児童のパフォーマンスが収録された。この点は，担当教員及び学校長との検証によって認められた。以上より得られた各種データについて，児童期の発達及び教育の実態についての分析を行った。授業者とともに，授業記録の文字起こしや児童の記述（ノート，プリント等），観察における観察者の気づき，実験的調査の結果等をもとに検討した。これらの調査及び分析と並行して，領域「言葉」及び「国語科」，幼小接続期カリキュラム，言語学，発達言語学に関する文献調査によって，音韻論，形態論を中心とした理論の検討をすすめた。
