本研究の目的は、多雪地域の亜高山帯に分布するオオシラビソ林の成り立ちに、最終氷期以降の気候変動と地形が与えた影響を明らかにし、日本固有種であり現在の日本海側の亜高山帯林の主要構成種となっているオオシラビソの分布立地について重要な知見を与えることで、日本の森林の種多様性形成過程の解明の一助になることである。長野県北部の黒姫山で、標高の異なる3つの湿地で採取した約1万年前～現在の地層から植物化石（花粉・種実・葉）を抽出し、3地点のオオシラビソを含む植生の変遷を明らかにする。3地点間の比較から、気候変動に伴うオオシラビソの分布変遷と標高・地形との関係を明らかにする。山麓盆地の最終氷期の堆積物に含まれる植物化石からオオシラビソの最終氷期の分布立地についても考察し、黒姫山周辺でのオオシラビソの分布変遷を解明する。2022年度は、中腹の大ダルミ湿原（標高1,590 m）において、地質コンサルタント会社に委託し人力ボーリングによる試料採取を行った。泥炭層からなる5本のボーリングコアを採取し、写真撮影、堆積物の観察、柱状図の作成等を行った。当初の予想よりも泥炭層が薄いことが明らかとなり、山地の緩斜面に発達する湿原の成り立ちを明らかにする上でも重要な試料と言える。
