Description of the account books and catalogues of the Munich antiquarian bookshop Jacques Rosenthal (1895-1977) and of the family and business correspondence of the families Jacques and Erwin Rosenthal and reorganization of the Family and Company Archive

The primary purpose of this description-project ist the restauration or reconstruction of the company archive of the antiquarian bookshop Jacques Rosenthal during the period of its Jewish possessors Jacques and Erwin Rosenthal (1895-1935) as well as during the period of their successor Hans Koch (1936-1977). Another target ist the integration of the business and family corrspondence of the families Jacques and Erwin Rosenthal into the reorganized Family and Company Archives Rosenthal. This correspondece came separately to Munich City Archives but is interlinked with the company in multifarious aspects. It displays references reaching far over the year 1935. With this project a collection of sources of international importance and of great value for a multitude of research approaches can be made usable for a worldwide community of researchers. Munich City Archives can sharpen and extend its already considerable documentation of the history of National Socialism, Jewish history, emigration and remigration and the history of antiquarian trade and antiquarian book-trade. It gives additional strength to the international reputation of Munich City Archives as an institution with important collections of sources regarding the international art-dealing, which had a growing importance since the second half of the 19th century, as well as sources regarding Munichs role during the period of National Socialism (Hauptstadt der Bewegung, i.e. Capital of the Movement).
