I conducted in vivo animal experiments using a transplantation method to observe the effects of enamel matrix derivative emdogain (EMD) on periodontal tissue last year. Ankylosis is caused by disturbance of the periodontal ligament (PDL) caused by milk. The EMD was applied to the tooth root surface and subcutaneously implanted. There was a reduction in the number of CD68-positive cells and cathepsin-K positive cells in the PDL after the application of the EMD. PDL inhibits epithelial cell proliferation and growth which is a key feature of EMD that promotes regeneration of periodontal tissues. The EMD group had more alveolar bone formation than the 1h immersion in the milk group. This suggests that PDL promotes fibroblast proliferation and growth and inhibits epithelial cell proliferation and growth. Some of my new research data were presented at international conferences.
