While basic studies concerning the political and cultural history of Ladakh, its monasticism and rich corpus of charters, muniments and social documents are available, a comprehensive examination of the Ladakhi kingdom as a form of Herrschaft is still a desideratum. To conduct such a research is the aim of this sub-project. By examining a series of sub-questions, in particular the policies of the kings of Ladakh to stabilise their Herrschaft will be revealed. The results will be presented in a transcultural perspective.
