アンケート調査によって得られたATTSのデータから、探索的因子分析を参考に自殺に対する態度の構成因子を抽出した。その結果、「自殺の権利」「触れてはいけない事柄」「自殺は誰にでも起こり得る」「自殺の背景」「許されない行為」「予防の可能性」の6因子が抽出され、これらの自殺に対する態度が支援の必要性に与える影響の初期モデルを作成し、共分散構造分析を行った。解釈の妥当性と修正指数を参考に初期モデルを改善し、最終的なモデルの適合度は、GFI＝0.9109、CFI＝0.819、RMSEA＝0.052を示し、すべてのパス係数は優位であった。看護師への支援の必要性には、直接効果として「自殺は誰にでも起こり得る」「触れてはいけない事柄」が有意なパス係数0.34, -0.65を示した。また、「触れてはいけない事柄」には、「自殺は誰にでも起こり得る」が起点となり、「自殺の背景」「自殺の権利」「許されない行為」「予防の可能性」を介在して影響を及ぼすことが明らかとなった。
