嚥下障害に対する治療として神経筋電気刺激治療（NMES）を併用した方法が提唱されている。NMESでは設定条件により速筋線維を選択的に刺激できること、そして咽喉頭の感覚機能の改善を促すことが可能で、NMESによって効率的に嚥下機能の向上が得られることが期待できる。本研究では、嚥下障害患者に対しNMESを用いた機能訓練の有効性と適切な刺激条件を明らかにすることを目的とする。そしてその結果を基にして、より効果的な嚥下リハ治療体系を構築する。NMESを含む嚥下リハに対する客観的なエビデンスはこれまでほとんどなく、本研究は医療的にも社会的にも問題となっている嚥下障害への治療的アプローチを大きく発展させることが期待できる。今年度の経過としては、新型コロナウイルス感染症の流行による対象症例の病棟の立ち入り制限やリハビリテーションの介入制限の影響で研究の中断があり、データ収集に難渋した。

Neuromuscular electrical stimulation therapy (NMES) is a combination of therapy and treatment for respiratory disorders. NMES can improve the sensory function of the throat by setting the stimulation conditions for the selection of the line dimension of the tendon.
