昨年度に市内成人1400人に対し自動車運転に関するアンケート調査を実施した。その結果548名より返信があった。返信があったのは男性149名(71.8±8.8歳)、女性399名(64.2.8±8.9歳)であった。また運転習慣において運年日数、運転距離、運転に対する自信、運転に対する回避行動について、男女差を比較した結果、男性のほうが、運転に対する自信が有意に高く、女性のほうが回避行動を男性より多くとっていることが分かった。また、交通事故件数やヒヤリハット件数には性別にて有意差はなかった。また、めまい外来を受診する患者156名に対し同様のアンケート調査を実施した。その結果一般成人と比較し、めまい患者において有意な運転習慣の違いはなかった。しかし、めまい患者の中で比較すると、めまいの主観的症状が強いと運転に与える影響は大きくなった。ヒヤリハット件数やめまいによる運転制限はめまいの重症化に応じて有意に高まった。これらの結果から、運転は性別により大きくことなり、まためまいがあるが場合には、その症状により運転習慣が大きく異なることがわかった。
