この研究は高齢者施設入所中で且つ認知症がある方を対象に、認知症に関連する運動障害を特定するために、プログラム遂行中の動作により判別できる認知症重症化スクリーニングテストの構築を目的としている。運動機能障害と認知症との関連はあるものの、重度認知症の方の認知症に関連する特異的な運動機能障害の定量的評価は困難であるためである。従って、高齢者施設入所中の方を被験者として募集する必要があり、新型コロナウイルス感染症(COVID-19)は感染縮小傾向であっても、施設内でクラスターが発生することが多々あり、施設や病院が被験者募集や実験に協力できない状況下でが継続していた。クラスターが発生していなくても施設内で感染防止対策、それに対応した生活支援の提供等で日常業務がひっ迫しており、実験依頼に必要な実験内容の説明のスケジュール調整についても全く不可能であった。また、この研究は、プログラム遂行中の動作と関連した認知症の責任病巣と進行を調査するために、MRIにより被験者の脳皮質を撮像する必要がある。協力施設とその近郊にあるMRIを保有する病院を探し、依頼し続けたが、見つからず、あるいは、協力施設は見つかったが、その近郊にあるMRIを保有する病院の協力を得られないなど、実験開始が非常に難しい時期が継続している。従って、昨年度も同様、実験開始ができていない。実験を遂行するために、遠隔対応できるプログラムや、協力病院を必要としないようMRIを使わずNIRSでできる研究実施計画を構築するなど工夫をしたが、受け入れ施設が2022年度中にはなかった。そのような中、2023年開催で協力施設とMRI所有の病院の協力を得ることができた。現在、協力施設とミーティングを重ね、感染症が収まり次第、研究を実施できるよう準備をしている。
