本研究の目的は、20世紀後半の南アフリカにおける人種隔離を基礎としたアフリカ人統治政策と、同政策への抵抗運動における歴史の政治的利用を検討し、現在まで続く歴史観の対立が形成された経緯を明らかにすることである。具体的には、南アフリカで最大の人口を持つ民族であるズールー人がズールー語で書いた歴史叙述を対象とする。2021年度より学振PDに採用されたため、科研費ルールにより本科研は廃止することとなった。半年の短い期間であったが、本助成により、学会・研究会での4本の報告を行い、1本の投稿論文（査読中）を作成することができた。具体的には、ANC初代議長John Dubeの行儀作法書Ukuziphatha Kahle（Good Manners）を分析し、西洋史学会・武蔵野アフリカ研究会でズールー人エリートの伝統認識を明らかにする報告を行った。またズールー語歴史教科書Ezomdabu wezizwe zabansundu nezokufika nokubusa kwabelungu（褐色の民族と白人の統治の到来に関して）を分析し、ズールー人のカラード認識の一例をケープタウン大学アーカイブと公共文化研究所での報告に含めることができた。後者は、同研究所の年次活動報告で言及され、好評であった。今後は報告に基づき投稿論文を作成することを計画している。コロナにより、研究対象である南アフリカで調査を行うことはできなかった。そのため、今後の研究で活用が見込まれる史資料及びアプリケーションの購入をした。具体的には、ナタール植民地の白人行政官James Stuartの残した6巻本の資料集成James Stuart ArchiveやDube夫妻の刊行した讃美歌集Amagama Abantu(A Zulu Song Book)などであり、今後はこれらの史料を分析し、学会報告・論文作成を行う予定である。
