本研究は、大学が産学間共同研究を通じて地域経済成長に与える因果効果を検証することを目的としており、具体的に以下の二つの検証課題を掲げている。①国立大学の独立行政法人化後、国立大学の周辺地域では知識の波及を通じて地域イノベーションの量が増えたか。②国立大学の独立行政法人化後、国立大学の周辺地域では地域経済が成長したか。研究の初段階において都市雇用圏単位の分析を行った際に、特に検証課題1について仮説は必ずしも正しくない可能性が示されたため、その理由を明らかにするために企業・事業所単位の分析を開始した。具体的には、産学間共同研究への参加が企業・事業所の特許出願数（特に企業の単独研究や企業間共同研究による特許出願数）に与える影響について分析を行っている。本年度は、昨年度の学会等にて得られたコメントを検討した上で識別戦略の変更を行い、データの再作成と分析の再実施を行った。また、都市雇用圏単位の分析についても目的変数の見直しと制御変数の追加を行い、分析を再実施した。また、これまでの分析を通して、大学が地域経済成長に与える因果効果のメカニズムを検討するためには、大学と企業の立地の関係性について検証する必要性を確認したため、新たに以下の二つの分析を行い、③については本年度に論文として発表した。③日本において研究活動に従事する企業と大学が共集積を形成しているか。④ 東京23区においてスタートアップの立地を決定する要因とは何か（分析の中で大学の影響についても検討）。
