（目的）本研究は、下部尿路症状(lower urinary tract symptoms:以下 LUTS)のある高齢者への個別の包括的排尿ケアが認知機能を改善するのかを明らかにすることである。（方法）本年度は昨年度に引き続き、回復期リハビリテーション病棟・療養病床入院中および介護老人保健施設に入所中のLUTSのある高齢者のデータを収集した。病院・施設に勤務するケア従事者の抱く排泄ケアの意識について、排尿ケアの講習会や研修等の受講の有無で2群に分類し、排泄ケアに関する意識調査の分析を行った。加えて、夜間の睡眠は認知機能に影響を及ぼすことから夜間頻尿により睡眠の妨げを軽減する非薬物療法として日中の膝丈弾性ストッキングの着用効果の検証を行った。（結果）包括的排尿ケアはLUTSの有意な改善と認知機能の維持・改善が示唆された。加えて、LUTSや認知機能の改善はケア従事者の意識に関係することが示唆された。また、日中の膝丈弾性ストッキング着用により夜間の排尿回数を軽減し生活の質が向上する可能性が示唆された。（まとめ）包括的排尿ケアはLUTSの改善とともに、認知機能を維持・改善とケア従事者の意識に関係することが示唆された。今後は、症例数の蓄積による継続評価とともに、認知機能に影響する夜間の睡眠時の排尿におけるケアの検討をする予定である。
