2022年度は海外の研究者と多くの交流の機会をもち、そのなかで仏教美術の製作状況と実践文献の分析、また石窟構造の考察を進めた。具体的には、まずトゥルファン仏教史全般を再確認する作業を行い、その成果を『ブリル仏教百科事典』の「トゥルファン仏教」の項目として寄稿した。また、近年トゥルファン・トヨク石窟では発掘調査が進められていて、重要な発見が報告されている。その成果をふまえてトヨク石窟寺院における実践形態を再検討し、その結果を12月にスタンフォード大学で開かれた講演会で発表した。また、『五門禅経要用法』『思惟略要法』およびモンゴル禅経の関係については、以前既に私見を発表したところであるが、この問題については、最近イェール大学のエリック・グリーン准教授が近著において独自の見解を発表している。このグリーン准教授の議論をふまえて関係文献の再検討を進め、その暫定的成果を７月の北京大学における講演会、および10月のカリフォルニア大学バークレー校における学会で発表した。またこれと併行して、グリーン准教授が検討の対象とした拙稿（英文で既発表）の中国語版を準備し、公刊の準備を進めた。さらに石窟構造の考察に関しては、クチャ地域の石窟の学派所属に関するジュゼッペ・ヴィニャト教授と檜山智美博士の共著書を検討するオンラインの公開研究会が、6月に北京大学で開かれ、ここで私見を発表した。また11月にはボーフム大学でロバート・シャーフ教授の議論を検討するオンラインシンポジウムが開かれた。中心柱窟の後室は非常に暗く、そこに描かれた壁画は元来見られることを意図されていなかったというのがシャーフ教授の議論であるが、私はこの点に関するコメントを発表した。加えて、以前から取り組んでいる「観経変相」と経典との乖離について、北京大学を中心としたオンラインの国際学会で発表し、また中国語版論文投稿の準備を進めた。
