项目摘要

本研究は、第二次世界大戦がイギリスに与えた影響について、大戦と「戦後」の連続性、非連続性に着目しながら、外交史、西洋史、文化史、科学史の知見を融合して学際的かつ包括的に検証することを目指す共同研究である。初年度である2021年度は、新型コロナ感染症問題の影響により、海外での文献・史料収集はもちろん国内での対面形式の研究会の開催すらままならず、研究の進展には大きな制約が課されることとなった。こうした状況において、本研究ではオンラインによる研究会を準備段階を含めて4回（21年3、8月、22年1、3月）開催し、研究代表者・研究分担者・研究協力者が共同研究の方向性を再整理しながら、研究成果を公表する方策について検討するとともに、本研究のテーマに関連する個別研究発表とそれについての議論を行った。この結果、第二次大戦の経験と記憶がイギリスの「戦後」にどのような影響を及ぼしたのかを理解するには、その前提としてイギリスが第二次大戦をどのように戦ったかを十分に把握しておくことが不可欠であるとの共通認識を研究会参加者が持つに至り、本研究を「イギリスと第二次世界大戦」により焦点を当てた形で行う方針が確認された。この過程において、本年度末に勃発したロシアによるウクライナ侵攻は、第二次大戦の経験と記憶が現在に至っても強い影響を与えていることを再認識させることとなった。
