项目摘要

本研究では、明治期の北海道への移住者の農家住宅について移住先と本州以南の郷里において、どのような関係性が存在するかを確認することを目的としている。2022年度は、北海道開拓の村に移築復原されている旧岩間家農家住宅に関して、郷里の地域である宮城県亘理町への調査を行った。岩間家は、明治4（1871）年に仙台藩亘理領から士族移民団の一員として、現在の伊達市に移住した畑作農家である。現地調査では、亘理町内に現存する明治期以前の住宅を数軒確認した。その結果、旧岩間家農家住宅で特徴的なつくりである外壁側での柱と柱をつなぐように通る横桟について、亘理でも同様の柱の切り欠きを確認した。一方、そうした事例の中には、桟が柱と柱をつなぐ長さではなく、柱両端から左右十数センチの長さにとどまっており、また土壁の大壁であったものが多い。土壁の真壁で復原されている旧岩間家農家住宅との差異が見られた。この点については、より詳細な調査が必要である。また、内部の板間に存在するつくり付けの戸棚が、亘理でもほとんど同様の形式の戸棚が見られ、生活様式に影響するつくり付けの家具などにも郷里と移住先との類似が見られた。旧岩間家農家住宅は、郷里の大工によって建てられたと記録が残されているが、具体的に「郷里の建築様式」として考えられる痕跡を今回の調査で発見できた成果は大きい。このほか、本州と北海道とのつながりを示す資料を把握するために、北海道と繋がりのある船絵馬を確認しに、北陸地方への調査を行った。石川県立歴史博物館および北前船の里資料館において、北前船関係者が奉納した絵馬10数点を確認した。アイヌ民族の樹皮衣が画面内に描かれるなど、北海道と北陸の人的・物的交流を示す資料の情報を収集できた。
