羊胎仔を用いて、尿膜管を利用した先天性尿路閉塞疾患の治療が可能か検討するために、初年度は羊胎仔の尿膜管にカテーテルを留置してのpilot studyを行う予定であったが、羊胎仔疾患モデルの使用について実験施設のあるNew ZealandのOtago大学の倫理委員会の許可を得られず再調整を要し、2020年度の実験計画において倫理委員会の許可を得ることができたが、新型コロナウィルス感染の世界的流行により、New Zealandへの入国制限を受け計画を中止せざるを得なかっ た。そのため、2期に分けての疾患モデルの作成、経尿膜管カテーテルによる治療の評価を行う計画を見直し、2021年度に疾患モデルの作成に加えて、経尿膜管 でのカテーテル挿入までを行う計画でNew ZealandのOtago大学と調整したが、2021年4月の段階で新型コロナウィルス感染流行の影響は続き、中止せざるを得なかった。New Zealandへの渡航制限を受け、所属施設で可能な実験で経尿膜管的治療が可能か検討する目的を損なわない代替案を検討した。所属施設の動物実験施設では、小型動物となるがウサギを用いた実験が行われており、過去に先天性尿路閉塞疾患をウサギで作成された報告があったため、ウサギに変更して実験可能か評価した。ウサギ胎仔の尿路閉塞モデルの作成の報告例では、下部尿道の閉塞による部分閉塞での作成が多数を占めており、尿膜管を結紮する場合には片側の臍帯動脈を犠牲にした報告を認めたが成功率60%であり尿膜管の拡張を得られない所見のため、当該施設の動物実験計画が認められたものの、更なる代替案の模索を継続している。一方で、New Zealandへの渡航制限の解除を受けて、2021年度に中止となった計画の再開可能性へ向けて調整を行なっている。
