本研究は、日本と豪州の一般病棟で緩和ケアに携わる看護師のストレスの実態を明らかにすることを目的としている。看護師の不安や対処方法にも焦点化しながら、ストレスとその影響要因との関連を探究するとともに、両国間を比較検討することで、多角的な視点からストレスの実態を分析したいと研究を進めてきた。2019年度は、研究フィールドの実情の把握をするために比較対象とする豪州で視察を行った。一般病棟の状況やスタッフの様子を視察するとともに、緩和ケア領域のスペシャリストナースと面談し研究の方向性の明確化に努めた。しかし、昨今のCOVID-19の影響に伴う医療の逼迫状況により、研究対象者へのアプローチはさらに慎重に行う必要性が生じたため、随時、研究スケジュールの変更を行ってきた。本テーマが対象とする看護師は、COVID-19の患者へのケアとともに、緩和ケアが必要な患者のサポートもこれまで通りに行う必要があり、その負担感やあらゆる葛藤による苦悩ははかりしれず、まさに医療の逼迫により多くの影響を受けていることが予測された。よって2020年度以降は、筆者自身が臨床に身を置く時間を増やし、医療の逼迫状況や、そこで奮闘する看護師のストレスの現況を体感し、リサーチクエスチョンのブラッシュアップに努める機会を持つことにした。過酷な医療情勢は継続していたが、その実情を社会に発信する責務もあり、2021年度は国内の医療施設に研究協力を依頼し、コロナ禍をふまえた調査項目も加味しながらデータ収集を行った。現在は国内で得られた貴重なデータの分析段階にあり、一日も早く実情をout putしていきたいと考えている。豪州におけるデータ収集についても、倫理的配慮をふまえながら慎重に時期や方法を検討していく予定である。
