研究1では，低出生体重児の育児手帳のニーズ調査を行った。低出生体重児の母親の育児ニーズと養育手帳ニーズを明らかにするために，広島県の低出生体重児の手帳を利用していない母親に質的調査を行った。低出生体重児を養育する母親は，育児手帳に，心理的負担を軽減し，産後の心と身体のケアを助けるピアサポートの促進と，育児困難の相談先や信頼できる情報源の掲載を求めた。母親は育児手帳に低出生体重児の発育指標の掲載，育児記録や出生時からの子どもの情報管理と多職種の情報共有ツールとしての機能を求めた。母親の育児手帳への新たなニーズは，育児手帳の早期提供と母親の体調不良への対応であった。今回の育児手帳を利用していない母親による育児手帳のニーズと，「リトルベビーハンドブック」の内容，リトルベビーハンドブック」利用者による有効性評価を検討した。「リトルベビーハンドブック」掲載の「同じ経験をした母親のメッセージと低出生体重児のサークル（親の会）」，「発育指標やNICU入院中・退院時の記録」，「低出生体重児の合併症，保健医療情報，助成情報と連絡先，フォローアップ体制」の内容について，リトルベビーハンドブック利用者は有益性を評価し，今回の調査者も育児手帳へのニーズをもっていた。これらのことから，今回の結果は，リトルベビーハンドブックの適切性を強化したと考える。家族・多職種の情報共有ツールは，リトルベビーハンドブック利用者，非利用者とも重要な内容となっている。低出生体重児は，脳性麻痺，呼吸器疾患等の合併症や健康問題を抱える児が多いことから，医療や療育支援を受ける機会が多くなる。そのため，低出生体重児用の育児手帳は，家族と多職種の情報共有と連携のツールとなる機能の付加が必要である。
