2021年度前半は当初の予定では2020年度から先送りになった京都府立東舞鶴高等学校における授業観察と授業データの収集を行う予定であったが、コロナの再度の感染拡大で協力校の制限が解除できず、また交渉をしていた京都府の指導主事が現場に戻るなどの予期せぬ状況があり、もろもろの調整がつかないまま１学期の授業観察を２学期に延期し、教員との研修を逆に授業観察の前に一度夏休みに実施することとした。2021年度前半は 、研究協力校との具体的なデータ収集方法の検討をオンラインおよび対面で行い京都府立東舞鶴高等学校、さいたま市との実施体制を協議し、具体的なデータ収集方法を短期(単元レベル)および中・長期(作文・スピーチなどの産出データ収集)に分けて検討した。また特に東舞鶴高等学校とは、8月23日に科研チームで学校を訪れ、CEFR, CEFR-J の理解、CAN-DO活用の授業設計などの研修を行った。これを受けて、東舞鶴高等学校では９月に計10回にわたる授業のビデオ、生徒の発話データ、パフォーマンステストの結果などを収集し、それを受けて12月23日、再び東舞鶴高等学校での第２回目の対面の研修を行い、CAN-DOの目標設定と言語活動の組み立て方の研修、授業コーパスの初期分析の概要、等を共有して理解を深めた。さいたま市に関しては、土屋中学校・与野南中学校の二校の協力が得られることが教育委員会との協議で決まり、研修日程、書くことの技能を中心に、英作文データ収集の目的や方向を話し合い、本格的なデータ収集は次年度以降とした。
