令和３年度もコロナ禍の終息が見られなかったため、学術研究会への参加や文献収集、分担者との研究会を中心にすすめた。台湾現代建築學會のオンライン研究会に参加し、ナショナリズムの空間形式や東南アジアの植民地都市と建築、華人の建築に関する研究発表を聴講した。特にマレーシアの都市と建築に関する内容が本研究の参考となり、海上集落を含めた居住環境の地域性について知識を得ることができた。そして、インターネットによる文献収集の結果、研究分担者が研究対象とする民俗宗教、宗族などの関連分野に関しては、中国本土との差異性が見えてきた。東南アジアの中国系移民は、出身地の伝統や宗族としての一体性を維持しながらも、多民族文化の中で相互交渉を繰り返しつつ自文化を維持変容させて生き残りを図ってきた。対象集落も数々の文化的、社会的試練の中で、どのように民族的一体性を確保しながら変容してきたのかを見ていく必要性を把握した。また、前年度に入手した学位論文の翻訳をすすめ、当該地域の歴史的変遷と1990年代までの生活状況について知見を得た。令和４年度に海外渡航可能となり、３月に現地調査を実施した。第１回目の調査に引き続き、住居の実測、記録、撮影を中心に行った。集落の居住者と村長に長時間のヒアリングを実施し、建物建設の経緯、住まい方の変遷、伝統行事、互助組織、宗教儀式などに関する情報を収集した。また、マレーシア国立図書館にて、事前に情報提供を依頼していた当該地域に関する資料を閲覧・複写した。マレーシア国土地理院では必要な地図を入手し、研究に必要な資料がある施設についても情報を得ることができたため、次年度以降の課題とする。
