项目摘要

2022年度は、令和2年度に実施ができなかった海外調査の実施、さらに今年度に予定していた海外調査を実施した。まず、海外調査では、ネパールのネワール社会に見られる人生儀礼の動向について明らかにするため、カトマンドゥ市内に在するダルマキールティ尼僧院と周辺居住地を中心に調査を行なった。ここから得られた見知として、当該社会における人生儀礼の変化という点では、尼僧院におけるテーラヴァーダ様式の導入のみにとどまらず、自治体のコミュニティセンターや、「婦人会」などの自助会の単位でも提供さていることが分かった。費用をかけない手段の提供の背景には、伝統的な人生儀礼を行なった場合にかかる費用が結婚式の次に高額であるという点が影響していると考えられる。このような変化に呼応するように異なる形式の儀礼提供が登場していることが推測される。宿泊を伴う人生儀礼の実施は、特に尼僧院においては新型コロナの蔓延期の2020年4月から2023年6月まで全く実施されなかった。そのことは尼僧院における運営費にも影響を与えた。このような尼僧院における変化に伴い、当該社会の住民の反応として、社会が再び動き始めた2021年頃から、尼僧院ではない場所での代替儀礼の実施が各地の自治体等で取り組みとして行われれ始めたことが分かった。特に、女児の儀礼は出血を伴い、ケガレ観の観点から適当な年齢が重要視されているため、喫緊の受容に応える形で人生儀礼が提供されるようになったことが考えられる。今後の課題として、コロナ後の1年間の参加者名簿の調査を行うことにより、儀礼実施者の推移がどのように、他の儀礼実施に移行していったか明らかにすることができると考える。
