世界的な研究状況からしてもその思想の全容が詳らかにされているとは言い難いイギリス観念論哲学者F. H. Bradleyの哲学体系の全体について、彼の「直接経験」という概念を中心に、その主要な考えを解き明かした。すなわち、Bradleyの倫理学・論理学ならびに形而上学について、それらすべてが直接経験という一つの発想のもとで有機的に連関しあっているということをあきらかにした。報告者の研究テーマは、Bradleyの哲学における真・善・美の関係性を追求することであった。論理学の目的である真理、倫理学の目的である善、そして（本研究中では充分に言及することはできなかったが）感性が自らの力能を十全に発揮した結果であるところの美は、直接経験において一つのものとなっている。直接経験とは、私たちのあらゆる経験の根源に潜みながら、いかなる区別をも有さない絶対的な統一である。この絶対的な一者という考えは、一般的に知られているように、BradleyがHegelならびにドイツ観念論哲学から学び取った概念である。しかしながらBradleyが語るところの直接経験とは、Hegel的絶対者のように理性のみが把握しうる対象ではなく、あらゆる感性的経験がそれに基づいているところのものなのである。要するに、真・善・美およびそれらの統一は、理性によって捉えられるものなのではなく、むしろ感性のみが把握することができるようなものなのである。この研究の成果は報告者の博士学位申請論文にまとめられ、同申請論文を以て、報告者は博士の学位を授与された。
