前年度より、1960年代前半のミシシッピ州ジャクソンに焦点を当て、黒人自由闘争と白人教会コミュニティにおける人種統合の関係の解明に取り組んでいたが、令和3年度においてはその研究結果を論文にまとめ、専門誌『福音と世界』、研究誌『アメリカ・カナダ研究』にそれぞれ投稿した。また、ミシシッピ州の黒人自由闘争における人種間の対話と統合派ネットワークの形成が、ジャクソン市内及び周辺地域の人種統合にどのような影響を与えたのかを検討した。その結果、教会コミュニティ内の人種統合に向けた取り組みとも連動しつつ展開したミシシッピ学生団体、ミルサップス大学キリスト教協議会、社会科学フォーラム等の取り組みが、人種間の緊張が高まった1960年代前半に、人種平等のために起ち上がり直接行動を起こした人々を支え、地域における運動を下支えしたと結論付けることができた。以上の研究結果については、2021年6月26日にオンラインで行われた黒人研究学会第67回年次大会にて報告を行った。さらに、1963年から1964年にかけて行われたミシシッピ州ジャクソンの教会訪問運動を事例として、黒人自由闘争における抗議礼拝デモの役割の検討も行った。ジャクソンの教会訪問運動がどのように組織され、教会空間における人種隔離の正当性をめぐっていかなる対立や緊張を生み、変革をもたらしたのかを考察することで、神の礼拝の場における人種統合を目指した抗議礼拝デモがアメリカ黒人自由闘争の最前線の一角となったことが示された。以上の研究結果については、2022年5月22日にオンラインで行われる第72回日本西洋史学会大会にて報告予定である。
