项目摘要

前年度から継続して、Penelope Lively、Alison Uttley、Philippa Pearce、Lucy M. Bostonの作品を中心とした1930～1970年代の英国児童文学に描かれる「生命の継続性」に関する研究を行った。これまで行ったLivelyの作品に関する研究をとりまとめる論文執筆作業に加えて、令和4年8・9月にはコロナ禍により延期していた英国のアーカイヴ資料調査・現地専門家との面談を実施した。資料調査の準備として、Uttleyの全著作および既存の周辺資料の内容の確認・精読・位置づけの整理、エッセイや伝記的史料における重要な記述の精読を行った上で、マンチェスター大学John Rylands Library所蔵のAlison Uttley Papersの資料調査および分析を実施した。調査では本研究におけるUttleyに関する考察・議論を下支えする重要な記述を多く含む作品草稿や書簡等が発見され、研究全体の質が大きく発展した。ニューカッスルにおいては現代児童文学のアーカイヴSeven Stories所蔵のPearceおよびBoston関連の資料の調査・分析を行うことで、本研究の核となる作品に関する執筆背景や作者の意図を草稿資料から探り、研究全体の考察を深化させることができた。カーディフ大学Catherine Butler氏との面談では、資料調査の内容を含めて幅広く指導を受け、本研究で扱う各作品／ジャンルの重要な主題に関する幅広い議論やButler氏提供の児童文学研究関連資料の調査・分析が本研究全体の内容および視野を大きく発展・拡張させることとなった。Bostonに関する論考「グリーン・ノウの音、匂い、手触り――「グリーン・ノウ物語」における場所の感覚と身体感覚」は書籍『ルーシー・ボストン──館の魔法に魅せられた芸術家』に収録された（令和4年12月出版）。

In the previous year, the Center for the study of Children's Literature, Penelope Lively, Alison Uttley, Philippa Pearce, Lucy M. Boston, 1930s, 1970s, British Children's Literature, Life, Sex, and Research. In order to improve the performance of the Lively project, this is the most important part of the study.
