本研究では、マアジ太平洋系群の産卵場およびその輸送過程を、漁獲資料（主に漁獲量データ）と数値実験を用いて明らかにすることを目的とした。小型マアジ (尾叉長50-100 mm) の漁獲量は、ある程度マアジの輸送を反映していると考えられるが、これまで十分に解析が行われた例は無い。最終年度では、以下の内容を実施した。1. 黒潮から沿岸へ向かう輸送について、漁獲資料と沿岸水温データを用いて検討した。暖水波及と呼ばれる黒潮系水の沿岸への流入現象を水温時系列から抽出する方法を検討し、暖水波及が生じた数日後に、小型マアジ漁獲量が有意に増加することを示した。これは暖水波及によってマアジ稚魚が黒潮から沿岸へと輸送されうることを示している。2. マアジの輸送－成長－回遊を再現しうる数値モデルを構築した。成長は体長・水温依存、回遊はKinesis型を採用した。この数値モデルを用いて、マアジ仔稚魚が出現した環境情報および陸棚規模に応じた粒子投入を2005-2014年の間に各産卵海域に行い、その到達粒子量の季節変動を確認した。その結果、2020年度まで実施していた漁獲資料解析結果とおおよそ整合した。各産卵海域の陸棚の広さが太平洋側沿岸域への経年的なマアジ輸送量を決定している可能性が示された。3. 2で用いた流動場よりも高空間解像度の海洋データ同化モデルの再解析値を使って、粒子追跡実験を行った。2008-2015年の流動場について、長期平均した気候値の流動場と日別流動場で粒子追跡実験を行い、暖水波及を含む擾乱による黒潮－沿岸への輸送を評価した。その結果、暖水波及などの擾乱を含む日別流動場で、黒潮―沿岸へ輸送される粒子量が多く、暖水波及による黒潮―沿岸への輸送効果の一端が数値実験でも確認された。
