项目摘要

筆者は横田永之助のご親族に取材をしており、その過程で明治時代に興した最古の映画会社の一つである横田商会が自社で製作した映画や輸入した映画などの目録である『横田商会改正活動写真目録』（明治44年）の原本を入手した。そして立命館アートリサーチ・センターの協力のもと全頁をデジタル撮影し、データ化した。現在はWebサイトにて横田永之助並びに横田商会関連の資料一式として公開し、並行してデータベースを作成中である。同書は横田商会製作の作品名だけでなく、場数および尺数、さらに「目玉の松ちゃん」の愛称で大衆に親しまれ、日本映画草創期に最も活躍した時代劇の役者尾上松之助作品のスクリーンショットも掲載されている大変貴重な資料である。この資料をもとに、明治42年末から45年までの東京の都新聞「遊覧案内」欄から東京浅草で封切られる横田商会の特約館（富士館、世界館、千代田館他）の封切日を特定し、約150本におよぶ尾上松之助の明治期のフィルモグラフィを作成した。さらにこのフィルモグラフィから判明したこと並びに明らかにすることができなかった今後の課題を執筆し、論文として投稿する予定をしている。また、1929年から日活がいかにトーキー化を推進したのかを検証する『トーキー移行期におけるアフターレコーディングの検証－日活のトーキー戦略の功罪』を執筆中で、出版を目指している。さらにトーキー化という技術革新を映画産業やテクノロジーの観点から検証する『トーキーと自動現像の並行性について』を執筆中で、論文として投稿する予定をしている。
