项目摘要

本年度は、DC期間中はじめて海外渡航が実現した。５－７月にかけて、ポルトガル・イタリアへフィールドワークを行い、野生化ウマの社会について調査をおこなった。イタリアの調査地へは初めての渡航であったが、ポルトガル個体群と社会性が似ており、ウマの重層社会が他の個体群でもみられることを確かめた。また、データ採集についても新たな方法を導入した。今まで、ドローンからの静止画のみでの観察を行なっていたが、本年度はビデオ撮影を加えることで、重層社会集団の集団行動についても解析可能となった。得られたビデオデータに対して、機械学習を用いた自動トラッキングを行い、ウマの動きを記録する手法を開発中である。さらに、今まで取得した血縁度と2016-2022年の群れ構成、および2017-2019年の群れ同士の空間配置のデータから、ウマ社会と血縁関係の関連性について調べた。通常、重層社会においては血縁度と社会関係に強い相関関係が見られるが、ウマ社会についてはそれらの傾向が見られなかった。これは近縁種で似たような社会を形成するサバンナシマウマとも異なる傾向であり、その理由について、より多くのウマ科動物間での比較を通じて考察する必要があるだろう。本成果については、現在投稿準備中である。また、本年度は博士後期課程最終年度であったため、２０１８年からの成果をまとめ、博士論文を提出した。無事受理され、博士号を取得した。また、研究成果発表については、査読論文1本、国際学会１件、国内学会１件、国内シンポジウム1件を行った。
