本研究は「地域」の空間的構造の複数の論理を明らかにしようとすることを目的とするものである。そのために、2022年度に、以下の三つの研究・調査に取り組んだ。一、神社および祭礼組織の形態とその構造的な要因を調査・分析した。氏子会や睦会、商店会、町内会の関係性について、境界および階層が明確である地域がある一方、独立性を保ちながら互いに主催するイベントに参加する地域もある。仮説としては地域開発による産業構造の変化と、居住形態によって、地域組織が階層的なのかどうかに影響をもたらすことについて検討した。二、神社のお祭りができなくなった地域において、地域をまとめる機能を果たしているイベントはどのように作り出されたかについて調査した。特に、新たなイベントの担い手と参加者の地理的特徴に着目し、「地域」を構成する異なる絡み合い（entanglement）がどのように変遷したかについて分析した。三、神社と地域社会の空間との関係性を明らかにするため、風景（landscape）という概念を用いて、神社がどのように地域の風景を形成しているかについて調査・分析した。祭礼組織のネットワーク、または神社と神社とのネットワークだけではなく、「地域の遺跡」などフレームにより、神社や寺、記念碑、個人の営みとしての霊祠の間のつながりに着目し、資料を収集した。上述した作業に基づいて、「神社の中の地域」と「地域の中の神社」という2つのアプローチで神社と地域社会との関係を解明した。
