令和3年度の前半は昨年度に続いて、コロナウイルス感染症の影響で新規の調査が全く実施できなかったことから、昨年度までに収集していた調査データの整理と再検討を行い、現状の資料と分析の問題点をより明確にする作業を中心に行った。年度の後半は肝付町社会福祉協議会などの協力を得て、肝付町内での調査を実施することができた。現地調査の実施にあたっては、コロナウイルス感染症に細心の注意を払った。滞在中は、検温やマスクの着用を徹底し、話者の距離を十分に取り、換気を十分に行った。調査の前後には手指・録音機材等の消毒も行った。なお、対応可能な話者には準オンライン調査も併用した。これは、同じ建物内（の隣の部屋など）でZoom等を利用した調査を行う方法である。この方法であればZoomへの接続や録音機の設定などの事前準備と片付けを調査者が自ら行うことができるため、Zoomやパソコン等の扱いに不慣れな高齢の話者であっても、非対面での調査が可能となる。さらに、通常のオンライン調査で問題の1つとなる録音音声の質の問題も生じない。令和2年度中に予定していた音韻論、形態論、統語論の調査を実施し、調査結果を文法概説として出版した。語彙調査と自然談話収録も進めることができ、このうち語彙調査の成果はオンライン上での公開準備を進めている。自然談話については2～3名での会話を計3時間程度、4名以上の大人数での会話の様子を計10時間程度収録した。上記の文法概説に加えて、音韻論に関する紀要論文1本と命令表現に関する共著の紀要論文1本を出版した。さらに、音調的語と形態統語的語との齟齬に着目した共同発表を国内の研究会で行った。上記の命令表現に関する共著論文出版に合わせて、3地点6話者分の調査データの公開も行った。アウトリーチ活動の一環として令和2年度に続いて、調査地である鹿児島県の郷土振興を目的とする一般誌への寄稿を行った。
