本年度は、茨城県稲敷市に所在する広畑貝塚出土資料を実見し、調査時の図面との照合をおこなった。研究代表者はこれまでにも広畑貝塚出土の縄文時代製塩土器を実見・分類し、形態面からの考古学的考察をおこなってきた。霞ヶ浦南岸地域には、縄文時代土器製塩の重要な遺跡が多く分布するが、調査された遺跡の資料は十分に検討・報告されておらず、このことが縄文時代製塩研究の支障となってきた。本年度は、製塩遺跡として初期に調査された広畑貝塚の出土資料を調査対象にした。現在、出土遺物は茨城県立歴史館に所蔵されており、現地にて数日間にわたり資料を実見した。当該資料は、層位的な発掘調査で出土しており、調査時の図面をもとに、出土層位を確認しながら作業を進めた。茨城県立歴史館のご好意により、理化学的分析の試料をいただくことができたため、土器付着物、土器付着の貝殻、灰層出土の灰塊の炭素14年代測定を実施した。土器付着物・貝殻に関しては、想定された縄文時代晩期前葉の年代をほぼ示した。灰塊については、当初植物片の炭化物と思われるものを対象としたが、実際にはのちの時期の炭素に置換されていたようで、新しい年代が示された。灰白色固形物の成分分析の結果、多量のカルシウムが検出された。従来指摘された通り、灰白色固形物は炭酸カルシウムであるが、炭酸カルシウムの由来は限定できなかった。土器製塩の出現は、縄文社会における生産活動の活発化を背景としており、社会的複雑化と関連していると考えられる。本年度の調査により、縄文社会の複雑化解明のための基礎的な資料を得ることができた。
