项目摘要

宇宙を生命と見なす思想のひとつとして、近年論じられることの多い宇宙シミュレーション仮説を検討した。シミュレートされた宇宙は機械的かもしれないが、そのシミュレーションの行使は高度な知的生命によるものである上、そこでは客観的な物質と思われているものが生命体によって創作された表象だからである。そこでは客観的な物質や道具であったものが、それらを行使する主体とひとつになっており、宇宙の現れはその主体によって創作された表象にほかならない。この仮説のもうひとつの特徴は、現代汎心論との類似性である。演算の集積から意識や超意識が生じるという創発論や、実在の基本単位に原意識的な「選択」を見出す汎心論的傾向がヴィンジとそれ以後のシンギュラリティ論者の根底に見出される。これは実在の基本を情報し、それを原意識と見なすチャルマーズなどの現代汎心論の立場とも共通する。そしてシミュレーション仮説における「情報的単位＝原心」説は、現代汎心論が「物理的単位＝情報的単位＝原心」と見なす仕組みにも類似している。これは機械を生命化して行く方向であるが、反対に物質の根本に生命の性質を見出す立場についても検討した。それが、進化とはもっぱら突然変異の偶然性に立脚するのか、それともその偶然だけではない秩序化の傾向があるのか、という問いだった。極めて巨大な高分子である遺伝子は偶然では天文学的に低確率でしか生成し得ず、さらにそれが自ら複製する複雑なシステムは、その低確率をさらに累乗させた出来事でしかない。そこで本年は形成作用は実在か、という観点から生命を論じた。形成作用は機械的な物質の属性ではなく、純粋に自発的な主体でもない。機械論的世界を前提にすると自発性はあり得ないが、形成作用を前提にすれば機械論的世界の方が抽象になり、秩序化が遍在し得る。そこで生命を捉える上でこの秩序化遍在の思想の妥当性について吟味した。
