美術工芸、特に「金属工芸(金工：鋳金技法、鍛金技法、彫金技法)」の分野において、着色技法は作品表面を色彩豊かに表現する手法として重要な役割を担う。そのひとつに各地で伝承されてきた「おはぐろ(お歯黒)(鉄漿)」着色がある。この技法は、現在も美術金工作品の色調表現として使用されているだけでなく、文化財・美術品の保存修復や復元においても重要な要素となる。しかし「おはぐろ」着色が表現する色調を定量的に評価した研究例はなく、日本各地に伝わるレシピとその土地の生活背景との関係性についても未だ不明な点が多い。そこで、本研究では、目的の色調を発現させる上で伝承内容や感覚的な判断に頼る部分に対して、定量的な評価とアーカイブの作成を行い、安定した色調表現と着色技法の確立と保存を目的とする。具体的には、(1)「おはぐろ」着色液の色調や着色工程、生活背景との関係性に関する現地調査 、(2)着色層の解析ならびに分析技術を用いた色調発現機構の解明、および(3)銅合金に対する実技的再現を実施項目とする。今年度は①各地の「おはぐろ」着色液に用いられる材料および技法の調査、②着色再現試料作製を行った。①では各地の視察・調査を計画していたが、依然として新型コロナウイルス感染症(COVID-19)の影響が大きく、昨年度までと同様に実施が困難であった。そのため、文献による各地の食の背景、特に日本酒などの生産と、「おはぐろ」着色液に使用された材料の関連性についての調査を継続して行った。また②については銅合金を素地とした試料を作製する上で、鋳造条件の再現性の向上、実験室で使用した際の安全面を考慮し最適な溶解炉を導入し、試作を重ねて、素地の合金組成と形状を決定し、試料作製に着手した。
