3年目の本年度は理論的研究期間と位置づけて、まずこれまでに明らかにした日本語の不定語システムの新たなデータとその分析に基づいて不定語システムの整理を行った。これにより日本語においては存在量化の不定語、自由選択の不定語、比較構文に生起する不定語、これら3種の不定語表現は、先行研究においてなされてきた主張に反し、すべて疑問の統語構造がベースとなって生じていることを理論的に解明することができた（中西公子氏との共同研究）。またこれは国語学や日本語学において提案されている通時的変化とも合致することが確認された。本年度は疑問をベースとした統語構造としてさらに選言表現に考察対象を広げ、日本語の選言表現「か」は選言要素ではなく、付加的疑問文がゼロ形の選言主要部により接続された疑問構造から削除により導出されている可能性について検討した。これが正しければ日本語の存在量化の不定語は直接選言から導出されているのではなく疑問演算子を含む疑問構造から導出されているという本研究課題の結論のさらなる証左となる。本研究期間においては研究発表や論文の出版はなかったが、上述の観点から日本語の選言表現について国際学会の研究発表に応募し、West Coast Conference on Formal Linguistics (WCCFL 41)、Workshop on Theoretical East Asian Linguistics (TEAL13)、Chicago Linguistic Society (CLS 51) に採択された。研究発表は次年度行う予定である。尚、フィールド調査研究に基づく沖縄語とGur諸語の記述研究、海外研究者との共同研究は今年もコロナウイルスにより中止を余儀なくされた。
