コロナウィルス感染症の余波のため、令和4（2022)年度も当初予定していた海外での資料調査・研究交流および研究成果の発表などは、すべて控えることとした。その代わりに国内での研究資料とりわけ英米で発表された学術論文および著作物の現物あるいはそのコピーの収集とその批判的な吟味および最新の研究成果の取得に注力した。また小アンティル諸島ネイヴィス島の砂糖プランテーション「モントラヴァーズ農園」Mountravers Estateの農園業務日録一部についてのゼロックス・コピーを入手することができた。入手できた学術論文は英文のもののコピー128点、また著作物はやはり英文のもの56点である。それらを吟味した結果、近年では18世紀末のアフリカ系奴隷労働者に対する「待遇改善」amelioration運動が、人道主義的奴隷制廃止論からするものというよりも寧ろそれらに対抗して奴隷制プランテーションとその統治体制（プラントクラシ）を維持・擁護する立場から展開されていたものであることを、個別事例の丁寧な実証研究から解明しようとする目的のものが多いことに気付かされた。このことは、当研究プロジェクトの当初見通しの方向性が概ね正しかったことを示している。ただしプランターの側から「待遇改善」を提唱・実践していた者は主に主導的な巨大砂糖農園主たちに限られており、彼らの大部分はイギリス本国ウに居住する不在のオーナー層であった。故に主に砂糖以外のコーヒー・綿花・インディゴ・カカオなどの生産に携わっていた中・少規模の在住のプランター層のこの問題に対する態度については、ほとんど未解明であり課題として残されてる。また「モントラヴァーズ農園」の業務日録については、予想以上に史料状態が悪くその読み取りは難航している。しかしカリブ海砂糖プランテーション業務の年間サイクルを知る貴重な資料であり、鋭意読解作業を進めている。
