项目摘要

2022年度のこの申請研究は、申請者の私的事情によるが、実母の介護と他界により、調査・研究のために十分な時間をとることができなかった。それでも、滋賀県の湖東・湖南の地域を中心として、両墓制と無墓制についての、調査・資料収集を行なうことができた。この申請研究を計画した時点で、両墓制と火葬をともなう無墓制との間には関連性があるのではないかと推測してきたが、それについて、その仮説はおおむね確認できるのではないかと考えられた。また、両者とも、従来定説となっていた日本の固有信仰ではなく、仏教民俗としての性格が濃厚であり、一般的に民俗事象を固有文化のごとく理解する学問的潮流、思考様式についても、疑問を投げかけるものと考えられた。両墓制については、1930年代以降の長い研究史において理解されてきたように、その埋葬墓地の形式が、その区画内であれば無秩序である場合と、家別、死去順など秩序のある場合とがあり、これらについても、留意してきた。無秩序か秩序か、どちらが両墓制の基本的様式であるのか、それが課題となるわけであるが、現時点では、その回答を得ることが難しく、2023年度の調査・研究で、これを継続していきたいと考えている。無墓制については、それが浄土真宗地域に濃厚であり、他宗派では少ないことが、今回の調査・研究によりおおむね理解できるようになった。この事実が、両墓制とどのように関連するのか、それが今後の課題のひとつでもある。
