前年度に引き続き本年度もコロナの影響によって十分な現地調査を実施できなかった。ただし、渡航制限が次第に解除されていることから、来年度の8～9月に集中的に現地調査を実施する予定である。調査予定地は、シンガポール・マレーシア・インドネシア成長の三角地帯（IMS-GT）、インドネシア・マレーシア・タイ成長の三角地帯（IMT-GT）、東ASEAN成長地帯（BIMP-EAGA)の3カ所である。2～3月には、黄金四角地帯（GQA）、エメラルド三角地帯（ET）、カンボジア・ラオス・ベトナム開発三角地帯（CLV-DTA）の調査を実施する。現地の研究者の協力を得て、事務局、政府機関、地方行政単位、NGOなどへの聞き取り調査と資料収集を行い、それぞれのミクロ・リージョンの開発の実態を観察する。なお、現地調査が困難である間に、理論的考察を進めている。本研究が対象とするミクロ・リージョンの重複は、レジーム・コンプレックスという現象と密接に関係するため、レジーム・コンプレックスに関わる学術論文を執筆した（五十嵐誠一「レジーム・コンプレックスと国際関係理論」『千葉大学法学論集』第37巻第2号、2022年9月）。
