複数サービスの共存状況を仮想的に想定し、シェア変動を時間的に追いかける数値シミュレーションを行った。具体的には、サービス提供社が2社ある場合と、3社ある場合を想定し、初期状態のシェアとして、特定のサービス提供社1社のみが大きなシェアを有する状態を設定し、以降のシェア変動を時間的に追いかけた。また、これらの初期状態に関して、モデル内のパラメータを変化させ、シェア変動に定性的な側面での差がないことを確認した。さらに、複数サービスの共存が可能である状況と、可能でない状況、加えて、2社のサービス共存のみが可能である状況と、3社以上の共存が可能である状況とを想定し、シェア変動がどのように異なるかを観察した。精度的にはやや不十分ではあるが、おおむね当初期待していた結果が得られた。すなわち、シェアの低いサービスが利便性を高めた場合、共存が許されない状況下においては、ネットワーク外部性の効果によってシェアの変動が生じにくいが、共存が可能になると、シェア変動が大きくなり、ネットワーク外部性の効果が顕著に小さくなることが確認された。このような、各種パラメータの設定に依存しない傾向が確認できたので、日本やアメリカのSNSに関して、実際のシェア変動を適切に説明できるかどうかの作業が今後必要となる。また、対象として、当初想定していたSNSだけでなく、ネットワーク外部性が大きな効果を持つと考えられるオープンソースハードウエアに関して、市場における評価調査を行い、その結果を発表した。
