项目摘要

本研究の目的は、既成概念を超える多様なアジア発の大学国際化モデルについて、マレーシアのインターナショナル・ユニバーシティ（国際大学）の調査から明らかにすることである。本年度はコロナによる渡航制限の緩和を受けて、ようやく本格的な臨地調査にむけて３校の国際大学において予備調査を行った。具体的には、１）中国主要研究大学初の海外分校であるる厦門大学マレーシア校(XMUM)、２）インドに本校をもつ医学系高等教育機関分校であるManipal University College Malaysia (MUCM)、３）マレーシア国際イスラム大学(IIUM)を訪問し、大学首脳に対して調査の主旨説明と協力要請を行った。さらに、３校それぞれの設立経緯や特色、現地社会における位置づけ、国際化の課題や問題意識について、直接関係者の見解を通して理解を深めた。英国による植民地支配を経て「複合社会(plural society)」となったマレーシア現地社会は、中国、インド、イスラム高等教育機関のグローバルな進出・拡大を戦略的に受容し利用することにより、現在、東南アジアにおける新しい国際教育の拠点あるいは「ハブ」を形成しつつある。調査対象である国際大学は、複合社会の特性をむしろ生かし、それぞれ華人ネットワーク、インド発の医学とテクノロジー、イスラム教を基軸(axis)として、学生のリクルートや現地社会におけるニーズへの対応にそれぞれの強みを活かしている。このような過程で、オルタナティブな国際化が進行する状況について理解を深めることができた。さらに、現地の共同研究機関であるマレーシア国民大学（UKM)において政府調査許可申請の手続きについての助言を得るとともに、共同研究についての打ち合わせを行った。

The purpose of this study is to investigate the internationalization of universities based on existing concepts.
