本研究の目的は，局所的文化が集団の暴力と反社会性を生じさせるプロセスを解明することである。このプロセスとして(a)コミット型-集団心理と(b)生存戦略型-集団心理の2側面があるという視点から実証的検証を行っていく。特に本研究では，局所的文化に注目して検討を行っていく。正しさの基準は，社会・集団ごとに異なっており，局所的(local)なものである。本研究で呼ぶ「局所的文化(local culture)」とは，国家・民族レベルの文化のみならず，よりミクロな社会・集団ごとに共有された固有の文化や規範も含んでいる。例えば，企業レベルであれば「組織文化・組織風土」である。もしくは，非行集団の暴行事件において，暴力行為が賞賛される風土や，リーダー格に逆らえない空気といったものが該当する。これがいかにして暴力や反社会性をもたらしているのかを検証していく。これまでの実績としては，集団間紛争・集団暴力に関する書籍『暴力と紛争の”集団心理”：いがみ合う世界への社会心理学からのアプローチ（ちとせプレス）』の出版を行ったことが最大の研究の進展である。これにより，集団間紛争と集団暴力において集団規範や局所的な文化が持つ役割に関して，理論的・実証的な整理を行い，統合的な理論的な検討が大きく進んだ。実証研究に関しては，国家レベルの”国家同一視”文化と戦闘意志，集団暴行事件のそれぞれに関して二次分析や調査データの収集・分析を進めている。現在，分析結果を公表すべく準備を進めている。
