项目摘要

研究３年目の2021年度は、前年度までに議論を深めてきた「伝世・長期保有」を生産面の様相から実証する方法として、「復古再生」に焦点をあてて、共同研究を実施した。そこで、確実な「伝世」資料が存在する鏡と玉を対象に、「復古再生」と認定できる現象がみとめうるかを具体例に即して検討した。また、「伝世」資料をともなわないが、「復古再生」例となりうる器物として埴輪を分析対象としてとりあげた。鏡については日本列島で製作された倭鏡を対象に、後期倭鏡が前期古墳副葬鏡をモデルに製作された点について、生産面における両者の時期的な隔絶性ならびに製作技術の断絶がありながらも、デザイン的な見た目の共通性がみとめられることをふまえて実証的に分析した。また、後期倭鏡のモデルとなった前期古墳副葬鏡は大型鏡といった優品のみが選択されたわけではなく、小型鏡に至るまで選択の対象となっていることから、時期的な古さが意識されてモデルになった可能性が高いことを示した。また、玉についても、碧玉製管玉を検討対象として、モデルと復古再生品との時間的隔絶性、技術的な断絶、見た目のデザインの共通性から、「復古再生」の可能性を積極的に評価した。埴輪については、「伝世」資料がともなわないが、モニュメントとしての古墳において古いものが存在していることから、「復古再生」が生じた可能性を想定できる。さらに、限られたエリアで「復古再生」が顕在化する傾向があり、「復古再生」が集団とのかかわりで発生した可能性をうかがわせるものとして評価できる点が重要である。また、中国大陸における「復古再生」から、そこには「古さ」の認識という体系が重要な意味を有していたことが示された。ただし、「復古再生」の定義として、古さの認識を指標にすることは考古学的には難しく、ひとまずは幅広く先行するデザインの再生現象としてとらえておくことが共通の認識となった。
