项目摘要

まず先行研究を消化する作業に、次いで戦間期ポーランドの医療を歴史的文脈においてとらえる作業に従事した。先行研究では、近年ますますポーランドとドイツの共同研究、あるいはドイツの研究者によるポーランド史研究の重要性が高まっており、そこから多くの知見をえた。しかし研究史を整理する中で、一部のエリート医師に関心が集中する点とユダヤ人団体がポーランド社会から切り離されている点に、研究史上の問題があることが明らかになった。そしてそうした課題の克服には戦間期の医療全体に関わる制度の理解が欠かせないため、1918年に独立したポーランドで成立した医師会に注目することにした。18世紀末にロシア領、オーストリア領、プロイセン領の3地域に分割されたポーランドでは、各地域ごとに医療制度が成立し、戦間期にはかかる分散状況の克服が目指されたが、医師会は医療から国家を統合する役割を担い、1935年には初の統一的な医療倫理綱領を採択した。本研究では、医師会の機関誌を参照して当該1935年綱領をめぐる共時的状況を把握しつつ、1884年にロシア領の中心都市で、1901年にプロイセン領で、1907年にオーストリア領で、また1914年にロシア領の地方で採択された草案を含む医療倫理も併せて精査することで、独立前からの医師の職業規範の変遷を理解できた。その結果、戦間期ポーランドの医療倫理は医師の職業的自立性を示しており、国家による政治から距離を取ることを可能にしつつも、他方で医師会は医師による国家への奉仕を強調する言説もみられたため、医師会は、優生学や反セム主義を促進する場としても、またそれらに抵抗する場としても機能しえたことを明らかにできた。医師が1930年代後半から、国防に積極的に関わろうとしていた事実もわかった。以上の作業によって、医師会について国際的にも意義のある知見を明らかにできたと考える。
