Self trapped exciton (STEs) are widely assigned for broadband emissions in low-dimensional hybrid perovskite which promises application potential in white LED light conversion devices. Two models have been proposed for broadband emission in hybrid perovskite. The role of the organic molecules in the absorption-emission process and the effect of the inorganic framework on the emission mechanism remains unclear. One of the effective ways to understand the influence of organic molecule and inorganic part in the STEs phenomenon is to exam the optical properties of various structures based on different molecules. Single crystals of various 1D hybrid perovskite structures are good candidates for examining STEs to illuminate the roles of organic molecules and structure in the generation of STEs. In this work, the photoluminescence (PL) and time-resolved PL spectra of the four lead iodide 1D compounds were studied. The compounds exhibited a broadband emission with a large Stokes shift assigned to STE in the organic molecules following the model I. At low temperatures, compound 1DI-4McPy exhibited two broadband emissions at 2.36 and 1.73 eV which would be assigned to STEs arising from distortion in the inorganic chain and organic part, respectively. These results are a good foundation for further investigation into the absorption and emission mechanisms of 1D hybrid perovskite.
